Who were the players from 85/86 there last night?

I just texted a Chelsea pal with 'us beating Newcastle last night kept you out of the relegation zone but do I get a thank you? Do I fuck. You are a very rude man'.

Not many opportunities to take that kind of piss out of the wankers and I'm enjoying it immensely.

Great win

Yes Newcastle were very poor but we played well and controlled the game until it was 2-0 then maybe we sat off a little too much and a little early.

All of the team played well but aside from Payet i thought Kouyate was superb. Always in the right place, constantly intercepting and very useful on the ball. Is happy tracking back or breaking with the ball, turning into a real player and could be the next top CDM available in the prem if the big boys are looking.

Noble aswell was class, hunger, desire and commitment to win every tackle.......also deserves credit for the first goal.

Hope the Ogbonna injury isnt too bad as he has been a real rock for us so far this season, gone under the radar almost but Ginge and Tomks are more then capable backups.

Randolph silenced a lot of critics last few games, say what you like, 2 clean sheets in a row speaks volumes. Would of liked to of seen Antonio become a outlet the last 15 as i didnt like how we invited them to come onto us...i would put him in for Lanzini up at the Etihad and play on the counter.

Well done Slav.....with Norwich, Watford and Palace coming up after City we could certainly be in a strong position come xmas....sounds a bit familiar that !

Fantastic from Noble for the first goal, great work from the skipper.

Moses very, very good.

I thought Noble was good. He did attempt a few risky crossfield passes in the centre of the pitch which against a better team could be punished but on the whole he done well.

Payet gave the ball away a couple of times too but that was on the edge of their area so wasn't as bad.

No weak links in that peformance.

Re: West Ham v Newcastle - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
I cant remember the last time a centre back has got injured and we had no probem with replacing him, I though Nobles passing was a bit shoddy last night and there was a couple of time the attackers should have made the pass for a free shot at goal.

Noble is simply very good at what he does - work-rate and providing the ball to players on the move and ready to make something of it. The paradox is even though he obviously does not have pace to spare, he shines in a team of fast players and is poor when the pace is slow. That was there on a plate yesterday when he had us scratching our heads at times as the whole team went off the boil in the first half.

funny game last night - didnt actually think we played that well at all, especially in possesion. two bits of genuine class won the game - but i guess it's nice that we had the class for a change.

i thought noble was pretty poor on the ball but did make the decisive run that ledto the openening goal.

we can deffo play better but a win is a win.

interesting stat last night was that out of the top 6 teams at the weekend possession wise only arsenal won.

oh, and I thought noble had another excellent game last night.

Played some great stuff at times, was a little bit disappointed he shut up shop so early with Obiang coming on but obviously getting that first win is more important than pushing for more goals.

Can't wait to see Antonio and Moses on the wings with Payet down the middle and Song pulling the strings behind! Could be unbelievable to watch!

Being a bit harsh maybe but thought we allowed them too much possession and those who rated Nobles performance obviously need an eye transplant. Shocking and is now the weak link,if he is anywhere near the first 11 at seasons end I will be very disappointed.

Back four and keeper all looked comfortable and whenever have we said that, I think we might give them a game Saturday 🔨

Payet and Moses rightly getting the plaudits but thought Tomkins was outstanding again last night. Hope Ogbonna injury isn't serious. We have some very good centre backs

Re: West Ham v Newcastle - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Good players make other players look better by giving them passing options and making space for them. And occupying the opposition defenders.
Bilic made the point about Payet .... It's not just his ability, he makes other players play better. Having him instead of Nolan is obviously going to impact on Noble and his game.

A couple of times in the second half Noble shimmied past a defender and ran into a crossing position in the right hand corner.
Can't recall ever seeing that.
Once he even surprised himself as he got in a great crossing position and doubled back to see if he could do it again.
Notived when he was in front of the benches a few seconds later Bilic gave him a WTF gesture.

Re: West Ham v Newcastle - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Are you being serious?

Amalfitano and Nolan were getting less than 20 touches of the ball in 90 minutes in some matches.

Why do you think the other midfielders, along with the whole team, couldn't play at their peak?

Re: West Ham v Newcastle - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Unbelievable what playing with class players does for Noble. But then why should that have to be the case ? Why couldn't he perform like that with Nolan etc in the squad ?

Great first home fame for me this season. More please

Re: West Ham v Newcastle - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Need to sign up Moses permanently asap...
It was clear we were looking to drive down the left hand flank predominantly. Don't think Lanzini did anything wrong however the ball didn't get near him too often as Haidara is a pretty good player and think we chose to avoid him.
